Meaning of deed poll

The Deed Poll/Change of Name Deed is a legal document with only one page of content. It is signed by the renamed person under the witness of the lawyer. The content is in the nature of self-declaration of giving up the old name, and changing to a new name. Without the Deed Poll, the Immigration Department will not accept the party's new identity to obtain a new identity card. Many formal documents, such as marriage certificate, will not be re-printed with the new name. Therefore, you have to use the Deed Poll to prove the old name and the new name "belong to the same person" i.e. you.

The maximum number of words used in a name (Chinese) is six. There is no restriction on what words to use, but they must be words (Chinese characters, English words).  People who changed their names were for fortune or feng shui numerology.
